James Nowogrocki (Of Counsel)

PRINT

Jim concentrates his practice on employment law counseling and litigation, with a focus on the federal and state statutes that are applicable to today’s workplace. His practice includes working with clients on non-compete agreements and trade secret issues. He also counsels executives and physicians on employment contracts and severance agreements. In addition, Jim has broad experience handling commercial litigation and casualty/tort claims in state and federal court. He has also represented professionals in the healthcare industry faced with professional licensure issues.

In regard to employment law, Jim defends a wide variety of businesses that face discrimination claims that range from sexual harassment claims under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, wrongful discharge cases, and claims of disability discrimination under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Importantly, Jim counsels employers on dealing with workplace issues to avoid litigation, and he provides “situational legal counsel” to management and human resources professionals. Jim has created a “Workplace Door of Employment Law” training program on how to comply with the myriad of federal and state laws that apply to the employer-employee relationship, which he presents to companies and organizations. Jim also has extensive experience helping businesses protect trade secrets and enforce non-compete agreements, which can be invaluable, especially given the current emphasis on technology and proprietary information in many industries.

Jim has successfully tried employment law and tort cases to verdict in Missouri and Illinois. He is rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell, which is its highest ranking for legal ability and ethical standards. He is a member of the Missouri Board of Law Examiners, and served as its president from 2015 to 2017.  As such, he is involved with implementation of the Uniform Bar Exam and licensing matters involving applicants to the Missouri Bar.
