Joshua Lawson joined Heyl Royster in the fall of 2019, having clerked at the firm during the summer of 2018. During law school, Josh participated in the Federal Civil Rights Clinic, litigating a three-day jury trial. The clinic experience included taking a case from the initial entry of appearance to jury deliberations.

Josh served in the Illinois Army National Guard from 2009 to 2016, and served as a summer clerk for the Honorable Colin S. Bruce in the U.S. District Court, Central District of Illinois in 2017. From 2017-2018 Josh worked as a Student Attorney for the Federal Civil Rights Clinic in Champaign and was provisionally admitted to practice in federal court under 42 U.S.C. § 1983.

Josh is currently an Adjunct Professor at the University of Illinois-College of Law in the trial advocacy department. He teaches second and third year law students the practical intricacies of trial advocacy by working on a mock trial case throughout the course of the semester.
