Matt focuses his practice in several areas of civil litigation, including professional liability and medical malpractice defense, defense of nursing home and long term care facility claims, commercial litigation, and general civil litigation. Prior to joining Heyl Royster, Matt served as an associate attorney at a firm in Honolulu, Hawaii, focusing primarily in the practice areas of foreclosure defense, condominium law, and general civil litigation in the Circuit Courts of the State of Hawaii, the District Courts of the State of Hawaii, the Land Court of the State of Hawaii, the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Hawaii, the Intermediate Court of Appeals for the State of Hawaii, and the Supreme Court of the State of Hawaii. Before practicing civil litigation, Matt served as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for the City and County of Honolulu. Matt received his J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law, where he received Honors Distinction in Legal Research, gained experience in the Civil Litigation Clinic, and served as Articles Editor for the Illinois Business Law Journal. Matt received his B.A. cum laude in Legal Studies and Political Science from the University of Illinois at Springfield. Throughout college and law school, Matt gained experience outside the classroom with various volunteer and internship roles with governmental and legal organizations including the Office of the Illinois Governor, the U.S. Senate, and the Illinois Innocence Project. Matt is licensed to practice law in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Hawaii. He joined Heyl Royster in 2021. Professional Associations
