Andrew Wilt (Associate)

Andrew focuses his practice in the defense of civil litigation, including casualty matters. He is a member of the firm’s Business & Commercial Litigation, Casualty/Tort Litigation, and Governmental Practices.

Prior to joining Heyl Royster, Andrew was an Assistant State’s Attorney with the Ogle County State’s Attorney’s Office (2014-2017). His responsibilities included handling various criminal matters, including misdemeanors and felonies, as well as being the FOIA officer for the office. Andrew first-chaired 13 jury trials as well as numerous bench trials. His trial experience includes violent crimes, property crimes, and traffic cases. Motions litigated have included motions to suppress statements, motions to quash arrest, sentencing hearings, and various other substantive legal motions. Andrew has also worked with the police departments in Ogle County in authorizing charges, preparing arrests warrants, and approving search warrants.

Andrew began his legal career as an intern for a Rockford law firm. During law school Andrew clerked for the judges of Dekalb County, was a research assistant for Professor Wendy Vaughn, and represented juvenile clients at the Zeke Giorgi Legal Clinic. Andrew participated in Moot Court, NIU’s external trial team, and was a board member in the Delta Theta Phi legal fraternity. 

Andrew graduated from Lawrence University with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics.  He received his J.D., cum laude, from the Northern Illinois University College of Law.
