Jake and Alison DeTrempe, Sandy and Jeff Dunbar, Kris Hohulin, and Satterria Wilson took part in the run, which goes along Grandview Drive – also known as the World's Most Beautiful Drive. • St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer
Also on September 23rd, Heyl Royster sponsored a St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital event to raise awareness for childhood cancer and other diseases. Jim Manning and Laura Guich headed up the firm’s effort to participate in either the walk or 5K run. Thanks to the research conducted by St. Jude, the overall survival rate for childhood cancer has increased from 20% to 80%, and, because of St. Jude, many children suffering from cancer and other life-threatening diseases have been able to receive free cancer treatment and care. • 15th Annual Mark Linder Walk for the Mind
The 15th annual Mark Linder Walk for the Mind in support of brain tumor research was held on September 30. Mark Linder was the son of firm partner Rex Linder. Mark Linder's mission in creating the Walk was to raise brain tumor awareness in the community, raise funds for brain tumor research, and to create a network of support for brain tumor survivors. Many past and present Heyl Royster employees volunteered and participated in the event. Past honorary chairs and committee members were invited to participate in the ceremony including Stacie Linder Hansen and Calista Reed. Heyl Royster staff Sonja Ahrens (brain tumor survivor) and Mary Brocksmith served on the Executive Board and Planning Committee. Hoang Kautz heads up the Raffle Basket creations, and on the Walk day she was assisted by Heyl employees including Heather Young, Vickie Motteler, and Sheryl Barra. This year’s walk was a huge success drawing almost 1,000 people including over 70 brain tumor survivors. For more information, or to donate, see www.marklinderwalkforthemind.org
