Cloud and Perkins Speak at Insurance Coverage Institute

Dave Perkins and Patrick Cloud spoke at the “Insurance Coverage Institute: Downstate” program put on by the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education in Springfield, IL on April 26. Perkins’ presentation was entitled “The Duty to Settle, Bad Faith, and Ethics,” and it focused on an insurer’s duty to settle in third-party liability claims as well as bad faith claims arising from a breach of that duty. The presentation also covered statutory claims brought against insurers pursuant to Section 155 of the Illinois Insurance Code. Cloud’s presentation was entitled “Independent Counsel and the Ethics of the Tripartite Relationship,” which focused on scenarios where an insured is entitled to non-panel counsel at an insurer’s expense due to the presence of a conflict of interest between the insured and insurer.
