Mike Schag Co-authors Book: Servicemember and Veterans Rights

03/23/2012

Heyl Royster partner Mike Schag (Edwardsville Office) co-authored a new book that has just been issued for publication called Servicemember and Veterans Rights. The book contains a Foreword authored by the Governor of Illinois, Patrick Quinn, and several of the contributors, including Mr. Schag, have been connected to the Veterans Legal Support Clinic at John Marshall University Law School. The book is a collaboration of professors, government lawyers, private sector lawyers and military personnel aimed at achieving a balanced explanation of the state of the law. Published by Matthew Bender-LexisNexis, the book is a first of its kind endeavor on a national scale to bring together various aspects of the civil law as they intersect with military service.

In addition to his practice at Heyl Royster, Mr. Schag serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force Reserve. In 2009, he co-authored an Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education publication called Military Service and the Law which had a comparable focus at the state level. In 2007, Mr. Schag published an article in the Illinois Bar Journal entitled, "Finding Your Way Around the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act." He has spoken before various organizations on how the applicable laws impact companies, employers, employees and civil litigants in cases ranging across a wide field of subject matter including insurance coverage, accident litigation, contractual agreements, real estate and consumer interests. He has presented on these topics for John Marshall University, Southern Illinois University, the University of Illinois, the Illinois State Bar Association, and the Peoria County Bar Association, among others.
