Hefflefinger Speaks at National Federation of High School Association Legal Summit

Partner Matt Hefflefinger and Dr. Marty Hickman, Executive Director of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA), spoke at the National Federation of High School Association (NFHS) Legal Summit on "Dealing with Litigation Over Disputed Disability Accommodations" on April 18. The annual NFHS meeting is attended by state high school association executive directors and their staff from around the country, along with their attorneys.

Matt and Dr. Hickman addressed legal developments in high school athletics relating to involvement of disabled student athletes, the impact of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the ADA, and many issues arising in this context.

Matt's representation of the IHSA has included litigation involving the rights of disabled student athletes in high school athletics, as well as eligibility issues, application of the contact sports exception in the tort setting, and various First Amendment issues, including a successful ruling that media outlets can be charged for internet streaming of high school playoff games.
