From Classroom to Courtroom

04/12/2016

Tim Bertschy and Melissa Schoenbein helped plan an inaugural community outreach event for the Central District of Illinois Chapter of the Federal Bar Association called "From the Classroom to the Courtroom." Students from Peoria High School and Peoria Notre Dame High School took sides in an April 12 mock trial in a case involving constitutional and evidentiary issues surrounding cell phone privacy.  Schoenbein, who is the Vice President of the Central District Chapter, and board member Bertschy worked with U.S. District Court Judge Shadid to put the program together. The event was covered by the Peoria Journal Star in an article entitled "Class is now in session: High school students try case in federal courtroom."

In the firm's Edwardsville office, Rick Hunsaker has served as a volunteer mock trial coach for Cor Jesu Academy in St. Louis for the past three years. Cor Jesu Academy recently finished first in the St. Louis preliminary rounds of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis' (BAMSL) Mock Trial Competition.
