State Proclamation Honors Bertschy as Founding Trustee of Illinois Equal Justice Foundation

Heyl Royster Managing Partner Tim Bertschy’s role as a Founding Trustee of the Illinois Equal Justice Foundation (IEJF) was recognized by Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner in a state proclamation dated June 30, 2016. The proclamation honors Bertschy and co-Founding Trustees Michael Pope and Christine Ory for the vital roles they have played in increasing access to the civil justice system in Illinois. Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan was the keynote speaker at a private ceremony that commemorated the proclamation. IEJF was founded in 1999, and all three Founding Trustees joined the first IEJF Board that same year. Mr. Bertschy served two terms as IEJF President and oversaw the hiring of its first full-time Executive Director.

The IEJF funds civil legal aid programs across the state ensuring all residents, regardless of income, have equal access to the justice system for acute matters like domestic violence, foreclosure and financial exploitation. Since its first grant cycle in 2001, the IEJF has awarded over $23.3 million in grants to nonprofit legal aid providers.
