Guarding Against Unconscious Bias in the Workplace


Bide Akande and John Heil published an article entitled “Consciously Guard Against Unconscious Bias in the Workplace” in the March issue of InterBusiness Issues magazine. In the article, Akande and Heil describe the concept of “unconscious bias” – an unintentional mental misstep “in which one’s inferences about people irrationally ignore objective information.” The article discusses the business-related benefits of diversity in the workplace and provides examples of on-the-job bias, and how that conduct can affect the quality of a business’s work product.
