Heyl Royster Opens St. Louis Office

Heyl Royster has continued its Midwest expansion by officially opening a St. Louis office located in the Peabody Plaza Building on 701 Market Street. The firm’s St. Louis attorneys – Richard Hunsaker (Office Managing Partner), Bob Bassett, Jennifer Maloney and Brian Connolly – are currently operating out of temporary space in the Peabody Plaza Building while the permanent office is under construction.

“We have made a commitment to St. Louis for what will be newly renovated, innovative space in the heart of the city,” said firm Managing Partner Tim Bertschy. “This move is in response to the demand from our growing base of Missouri clients, as well as our national clients who do business in Missouri.”

The office will feature a 12-person corporate conference room, space for additional growth, and access to a conference center in the adjacent Gateway Summit with seating for 80 and views of Busch Stadium.

Richard Hunsaker said, “We plan to be in our permanent office space in late spring. The space has been designed to offer state-of-the-art accommodations for our clients and attorneys.”

Hunsaker is an experienced trial lawyer with more than 30 years of experience – all with Heyl Royster. He has practiced in three of the firm’s offices, most recently in the Edwardsville office, and he has taken more than 30 cases to trial. His primary focus is defending doctors and hospitals in professional liability cases as well as representing professionals in the architectural, electrical engineering/utility and design fields. Hunsaker is also a member of United States Arbitration and Mediation’s (USA&M) St. Louis-based panel of mediators where he is available to assist litigants who elect to mediate their legal disputes.

Bassett is an experienced litigator with an extensive and diverse background in the defense of various civil suits including trucking, transportation, product liability, premises liability, workers’ compensation and class action litigation. He started his legal practice in what was Heyl Royster’s Urbana office and later moved to its Edwardsville office. He has served as Associate General Counsel for Anheuser-Busch and most recently, was a partner at a St. Louis-based civil defense firm. Bassett said, “I am very excited to return to Heyl Royster and play an integral role in expanding the firm’s geographic reach into St. Louis and Missouri.”

Both Bassett and Hunsaker are officers with the Missouri/Southern Illinois Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). ABOTA is a national organization of experienced trial lawyers dedicated to protecting the right to trial by jury and promoting judicial independence. Hunsaker will serve as Chapter President in 2019, while Bassett will serve as the Chapter’s President in 2021.

Jennifer Maloney is an experienced litigator, having handled many civil lawsuits from beginning to end, including product liability, trucking and commercial litigation. She has worked with firms in both Belleville, IL and St. Louis, MO. Maloney routinely handles cases in Illinois and Missouri and in federal courts on both sides of the Mississippi river. Before joining Heyl Royster, Maloney worked with Bassett as a partner in a St. Louis-based civil defense firm.

Connolly’s practice is concentrated on asbestos defense and commercial litigation. He began his legal career defending agrichemical class actions. More recently, Connolly has developed experience in the defense of toxic tort matters, commercial litigation and general insurance defense litigation.

The award-winning Peabody Plaza anchors the City Garden in downtown St. Louis. The building offers unmatched corporate visibility and direct views of the Gateway Arch, Kiener Plaza, and Busch Stadium. Heyl Royster is pleased to become part of St. Louis’ vibrant and rejuvenated downtown.
