Linder and Thompson Author Chapter in IICLE’s "Attorneys' Legal Liability"

04/23/2018

In the “Attorney Liability to Non-Clients,” chapter of the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE) publication, Attorneys' Legal Liability, Rex Linder and Matt Thompson discuss practice pointers that are helpful to anyone (attorneys, insurance adjusters, etc.) involved in attorneys' professional liability. The scope of an attorney’s liability to a client is fairly established. This chapter discusses circumstances in which liability might attach to non-clients. This chapter covers those circumstances, as well as certain defenses and privileges that are available to attorneys. The chapter examines the basis of statutory law as well as common law liability taken from court decisions from across the country.
